PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY?
Coffee Shop Talk
Perhaps we can not always rely on Facebook or Google to solve our problems. Is it our personal responsibility to make sure our lives include serendipity? Do we need to take an active approach at looking for the “other side of the coin.” After all, any decent controversy has more than two sides...and many shades of gray.
Is there a need for us to look up from our laptops and our tablets to converse with the person sitting next to us? Should we put down our smart phone to strike up a conversation with the barista serving us our latte? |
Is more PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY the answer to lost serendipity?
Is it possible to go on a journey of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY? If we are searching for news on our computers and with websites that already 'know' us through records and algorithms, how are we to possibly overcome this?
Where do we look for serendipitous and unbiased news if each of these places is tainted by our past? Do we go back to idle chit-chat with friends over coffee, on the street, at the office, or at personal interest functions? Where are these nuggets of serendipitous information hiding? It seems like with all of the integrated algorithms online it will be hard to find them there... The answer probably does not lie with adding more technology to our lives. The answer, perhaps, is networking in the real world - not the virtual one. |
